Don Imus: The Return Of The Pasty-Faced Pimp?!?
Now that Don Imus has been publicly shamed, fired and replaced by Paris Hilton as the 'Worst Person Ever' he has all but disappeared from the public eye. So what has he been up to lately? Is he coming back? As always, we at It's Still News are here to provide you with all the answers...
This story really needs no background, since I'm guessing if
you didn't hear about the controversy surrounding Don Imus two months
ago you live alone in a shack somewhere in Montana and probably don't
own a computer. After referring to the Rutger's women's basketball team
as 'nappy headed hos', Don Imus was eventually fired by CBS radio and
MSNBC as a result of pressure from advertisers, black employees of the
companies, and the media whores reverends
Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. It seemed that Imus was out of our car
radios and living rooms forever, but now a number of signs are pointing to a
possible comeback.
First, after getting fired, Imus filed a lawsuit for $40 million against CBS for breach of contract. His attorney is a hotshot trial lawyer, Martin Garbus, who is famous for being involved in a number of high profile first amendment cases, such as the trial of Lenny Bruce. Apparently, Garbus is now pushing CBS to take Imus back or risk having to pay an exorbitant cost. So far, though, CBS has refused to back down. Interestingly, while a defense of Imus to the public rested on making this out to be an isolated incident, an argument for him in his lawsuit may be that his comment was no different than what he normally does and what CBS was paying him to do.
In another development, it seems possible that Imus may come back on the Fox News Channel with co-host.... wait for it... Rosie O'Donnell. That's right! It's been reported on a number of sites that Fox is offering the pair a lot of money to co-host a show together. Somehow it seems hard to believe Rosie O'Donnell will be appearing on Fox anytime soon, but we will see. Just remember, you heard it here first.
Finally, upset Imus fans are continuing the push to demonstrate hypocrisy in the firing of Imus by pointing out the verbal slips of anyone they can find. What started with an at least somewhat reasonable attack on the sexism of the hip-hop industry has now become just plain silly. The latest target is Al Roker. Imus fans have said that Roker, who apparently himself pushed for Imus to be fired, is a hypocrite because he made a joke about epilepsy on the Today Show.
